Tiwi Beach is about 22km south of Mombasa, accessible via a graded dirt road about 6km before the Diani turn off. Its popularity has waned in recent years in favour of Diani Beach but it is still visited by budget travelers seeking seclusion. There are numerous rock pools with plenty of marine life making for good snorkeling. At low tide you can cross to Diani Beach at Kongo on the estuary of the Mwachema river where the 15th century Mwana Mosque still stands.
